FAQs

Boxi Cool™ has one of the largest lunchbox capacity’s on the market -  it holds 5.75 metric cups (1,43 ml/ 1.43 litres/ 50 ounces). Check out our  page about the features and compartment capacities.

Yes, the silicone seal inside the lid of the lunchbox is leakproof, which keeps items in the four main compartments from spoiling into each other. Pack wet foods like yoghurt, sauce and dips in the small corner compartment to ensure they don't spoil the rest of your lunch! The leakproof seal is designed to prevent spillage and spoilage and therefore won't protect against liquid foods spilling (like soup, undrained tinned fruit, watery yoghurt or oils in dressings or dips etc.)

The aim of the dividers is to separate foods so you can pack more variety in your lunchbox. The dividers are not leak-proof so we recommend packing wet foods (i.e. yoghurt, dip, sauce) in the dedicated compartment in the front right-hand corner.

Absolutely! We designed Boxi Cool™ with this in mind because we don’t always need to keep our non-perishable food cool. The food tray still fits perfectly without the icebrick underneath.

This also makes it easy for you to pack your food the night before and leave the lunchbox in the fridge. Just remember to grab your icebrick out of the freezer before you walk out the door in the morning!

Boxi Cool™ fits in most rectangle shaped lunch bags. It is a little bit taller than most bento-style lunchboxes, but it does fit in most children’s insulated lunch bags (look for the oblong shaped ones instead of square shaped bags).

The dimensions are:

Length 24cm

Width 21cm

Height 7cm

We've tested it in Montii Co, Little Renegade Company, Smiggle Oblong, Arctic Ice Expandable and the larger, rectangle ones from K-Mart, Big W and Target.

We all dread the afternoon rush of pick up the kids, get home, unpack bags, get dinner cooking, do homework etc. Make it part of the routine to unpack Boxi lunchboxes, wash them and re-freeze the ice-brick as soon as you get home so it’s ready for the following day (with the exception of Saturday and Sunday when you don’t have to pack lunches! Woo hoo!).

We recommend hand-washing the outer shell of Boxi Cool™ but it is dishwasher safe on the top shelf at 65 degrees Celsius. The food tray, dividers and silicone seal are also dishwasher safe on the top rack.

Do not put the ice brick in the dishwasher – wipe it down with a damp cloth before re-freezing.

Allow the lunchbox and silicone seal to dry completely before re-assembling and storing. Leave the lid open or slightly ajar to prevent any mould growing.

Remove the silicone seal in the lid to hand wash or place in the dishwasher. Be gentle with the seal when cleaning, don’t stretch or pull it so it maintains its shape and effectiveness. Allow it to air dry completely before placing back inside the lid. Make sure it's sitting firmly in the groove to ensure it's leak-proof effectiveness.

The ice-brick contains 480mls of non-toxic, water and sodium chloride (salt ) based gel liquid. It lasts up to 6 hours* when stored inside an insulated bag, out of direct sunlight.

If you live in a hot climate like Queensland or the Northern Territory, then you may need to add an extra icebrick inside your insulated bag - these regions experience epic heat and humidity and we'd hate for your lunch to be warm so stay on the safe side and keep it extra cool!

It's a fact of nature that when something frozen melts, it creates condensation. Please note that your icebrick will condensate! So, we advise to pack your lunchbox  separately if you are putting it inside a school or work bag (i.e. in an insulated bag or a dedicated waterproof compartment) - you definitely don't want your homework or iPad getting wet!

*Please note other cooling packs that are placed in their own canvas bag may last longer because they are being insulated - this seems like a good idea but in actual fact the cold isn't escaping to keep your food cool, unlike our lunchbox where it sits directly underneath your food.

Here at Boxi HQ, we are conscious of the environment. So when we designed this lunchbox we wanted to make sure that we considered the environment.

Did you know that the average school-aged student, taking a packaged lunch to school, produces 3 pieces of litter a day - that's 15 pieces a week*. In a school of 500 students, that equals 7,500 pieces of single-use plastic rubbish a week, 390,000 a year - weighing over 15 tonnes. But we can make the conscious decision to change these figures by packing a waste-free lunch and saving money by buying in bulk rather than individually packaged items.

Boxi Cool™ is made from food-grade ABS plastic and is BPA free. It's approved by the FDA and complies with Australian Standards (which are aligned with the FDA). The ice brick is made from HDPE and contains 480ml of non-toxic water and sodium based gel.
